Top 5 Tips for Goal Setting

As a single mom, I'm all too familiar with the day-to-day challenges that can arise. That's why establishing measurable goals is beneficial, especially when it comes to health and wellness. Fitness goals are an essential part of any wellness journey. They help hold us accountable, keep the overall objective in mind while striving for higher achievements. However, making any lifestyle change can be a little difficult, especially when it comes to fitness. So, here are some suggestions we at Volofit give to our members to help them get started on their fitness journey.

What is your "why"

Goal setting begins with visualization. Start with a clean mindset and envision your best version of yourself. I recommend writing out everything you imagine and then pinpointing the must-haves—the one that must be accomplished. Next, concentrate on the one big goal to help make it easier to stay focused and consistent- rather than trying to achieve them all. Then move towards that one vision one step at a time.

Advice to new Volofit members: Connect to your “why.” Knowing your "why" helps you find your passion for your plan and becomes a vital driving force behind sticking with it and achieving it.

Be realistic

When creating your goals, it's essential to be realistic. For example, improving overall health, competing in a fitness competition, or running a marathon. Whatever your individual goal is, it's crucial to think about what's achievable for you, your unique body type, and your lifestyle. Remember, goals are personal and should be something that excites you and are realistically achievable.

Be specific

While being realistic, it's also necessary to be specific with your goals. Avoid making goals that are too general and focus on goals that are measurable. For example, "I want to lose weight." I always advise our members to consider what the goal looks like and make sure it's ideal and attainable. Having specific goals helps to make the objective clear and keep you motivated.

Set mini-goals

You can't control all things, only what's in front of you. Fitness is a challenge and isn't much different from all other life challenges. Take it little by little and set mini-goals. It's not only a healthier approach, but you are more likely to reach your ultimate goal if you break it down into small, short-term intentions. In addition, setting small goals helps ensure that you're starting with some all-important wins that build confidence, increase motivation, and turn into long-term results.

Don't be too hard on yourself

We live in a time of instant gratification. However, nothing great comes fast or easy, especially when you're on the path of becoming the best version of yourself. Just like in life, fitness will have its peaks and valleys. But I promise it'll get easier if you stick with it. I encourage you to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, because regardless, you're still moving forward, and that's what counts!
